Cameray Child and Family Services is seeking a Full-Time Parent Support Counsellor/Parent Support Educator in our Parenting Support Program located in Burnaby and New Westminster, BC.
This position consists of a blend of two Parent Support roles/programs:
The Parenting Support Program (17 hours/week) provides prevention and intervention services to parents of children 0-5 years old in the Burnaby and New Westminster community. This role will provide parent support, coaching, and navigation to families through on-site and community-based programs, and outreach services.
The Parent Education Program (18 hours/week) provides support and education to parents who have children aged 6 to 18 in Burnaby and New Westminster. The Parent Support Educator provides individual support and educational group sessions designed to strengthen family resilience. The program specializes in topics regarding middle childhood and adolescence development, and offers information, practical learning and resources for parents with school-age children.
This position requires HSABC union membership.
Hours of Work: Full-Time 35 hours/week typically Monday to Friday, evening and weekend work may be required.
Salary: $40.03 per hour
Expected Start date: March16, 2026
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
- Provides psychoeducation and skill building in areas of parenting skills, such as communication skills, attachment, developmental stages, nutrition, parenting challenges, behaviors and child injury and prevention.
- Supports learning and skill development for various levels of parents’ ability within a group setting. Plans, prepares and conducts group sessions with clients.
- Monitors clients’ progress and provides follow-up planning.
- Provides case management services and consultation to other service providers. Provides information on and refers clients to other community service providers, resources or professionals as required.
- Liaises with and/or promotes the interests of clients with other community service providers, professionals or school personnel as required.
- Plans, develops, and teaches group modules/series.
- Maintains accurate reports and related records and statistics on clients and provides reports as required. Ensures that all required documentation is complete.
- Attends monthly team meetings, mandatory agency meetings, and participates in committee meetings.
- Promotes respect and confidentiality among individuals with the program and maintains confidentiality of all families who participate in the program.
- Participates in Performance quality improvement and other accreditation activities.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Qualifications, Experience, and Skills:
- Minimum of a Bachelors Degree in Child and Youth Care or related degree.
- Two years of experience working with families with children aged 0-18 years.
- Excellent interpersonal behavior and communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to teach skills and work effectively with others.
- Non-judgmental and open mind.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Knowledge of group process techniques.
- Familiarity of Burnaby/New Westminster & knowledge of the communities.
- Commitment to empowering others to solve their own problems.
- Values a nurturing family as the ideal environment for a child.
- Conviction about the capacity of clients to grow and change.
- Ability to set appropriate limits.
- Knowledge of the service population’s cultural and socio-economic characteristics.
- Ability to work independently.
- Valid driver’s license is required.
- Fluency in a Second Language is preferred.
